| BS 7121 and other Regulations. | ||
| BS 7121 Part 1 gives recommendations for the safe use of land based cranes.
It covers safe systems for the management, planning, selection, erection & dismantling, testing, operation & maintenance of cranes and the selection of
personal - drivers, slingers, banksman and signalers.
Basically, all lifting operations are covered by LOLER (Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations) and the Health & Safety at Work Act. An extract from a recent communication from the HSE to all crane hire companies: "...Inspection and investigation ....has identified a worrying lack of knowledge of the above Regulations on the part of individuals and organisations that hire cranes... It is a strict legal requirement on your clients to appoint a Competent Person to plan all lifting operations, and a Supervisor to ensure that the lift is carried out in accordance with the prepared plan..." BS 7121 is how to do it right. |
